Where can I volunteer to plant trees in Malaysia?

Here are some organisations or initiatives that are doing great work in forest conservation & urban greening that need your help! 🌳

1. Free Tree Society

Volunteering experience includes planting workshops & nursery management. Locations are at Pulai Trail, Taman Tugu & the headquarters in Bangsar.

2. Taman Tugu

Taman Tugu does great work at managing our urban forest. By volunteering with them, you’ll be engaged for their weekend activities & events.

3. Kempen Penanaman 100 Juta Pokok

This is a national tree-planting campaign until 2025. You can stay updated with their progress & inquire how to get involved!

4. Urban Community Forest with Malaysian Nature Society

Volunteers at the UCF will help to look into the welfare of saplings, have nursery duties, do trail maintenance & strengthen stream banks.

All the trees will be planted on reforestation sites at the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary in Sabah. You can either volunteer with APE Malaysia or donate to adopt trees.

6. Global Environment Centre

Available slots of tree planting with GEC are on the 26 August, 23 September & 28 October this year at the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve in Selangor.

7. Rimba Ilmu

Rimba Ilmu is tropical botanic garden in Universiti Malaya that focuses primarily in research, education & awareness as well as conservation. They are looking for volunteers with different skill sets.

This is the Voluntary Guardian position which entails wetland management, environmental education & fundraising.

9. Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society

Look into their tree planting initiative called the Mangrove Conservation Experience Program. This will be conducted at the Sulaman Lake Forest Reserve in Tuaran, Sabah. Please contact the NGO beforehand.
